Maria Cristoforo, older sister of Teresa Limosani, was born on this day in 1876.Zia Maria (as she was called, was our grandaunt), married Luigi Vocale in San Marco, Italy. Luigi came to America and worked on the railroad in Montana with Antonio Limosani. However, Maria stayed in Italy because their son, Antonio, was in college and was planning on becoming a doctor. Luigi sent money back to Italy to help with the tuition. Luigi remained in Montana for many years while Maria stayed in Italy. He worked as a carpenter and died at 51 in 1932. Maria passed away in the late 1930s and, unfortunately, didn't live to see her son become a doctor. However, by the time Antonio became a doctor, Italy was at war and was drafted and served in the Italian army during World War II. World War II caused much heartache between the Italians here in America and their relatives in Italy.
