Boomer RIPs

What’s interesting about the evolution of the internet to the present day is that there’s so much information on people who have passed away compared to 20 or 40 years ago. If someone passed away there might have been just a few articles written about them and perhaps someone would make a documentary. But these days on YouTube there are thousands and thousands of videos that are being made in tribute to rock musicians that have passed away. This is unlike any other generation or era where people could learn about musicians both living and deceased. What’s interesting about today’s world is we are now witnessing the passing of the immediate postwar boomers (1950-1955). 10 years ago it was the passing of the silent generation and now the boomer generation is moving into that slot. Consequently, we get to explore the late 1940s and early 1950s. It’s remarkable how the world has changed. If you compare where we are to where we will be in another 80 years when there will be new technology that will give us a lens into the world of the 2020s, it will be similar in some ways but very different in terms of reverence for previous generations. These days, the 1960s sometimes get a bad rap, but perhaps in the 2040s it will be a revival of the zeitgeists of that time.
